I'm Anamitra

My passion for creatively solving problems drew me towards a career in product design. As I further explored this field, I came to appreciate the role of product designers in shaping the future. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Indiana University, Indianapolis.

Some of my areas of interest include:

Generative AI, design for Accessibility, Sports analytics, and Voice User Interfaces (VUI).

My Journey

I received my bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Even though I was performing well academically, I felt something was lacking. My curiosity with design led me to investigate adjacent disciplines. Following graduation, I began studying the fundamentals of design and design thinking. I worked on my portfolio and began looking for employment. I started out as an intern in graphic design at a design studio in Pune, India. And while I was working, I learned about user experience design. Later, I looked into the fields and decided to get my master's degree in this area. And I left my job. I was accepted to both IIT Hydrabad and Indiana University Indianapolis, but I chose IU. I am currently a UX research assistant and a graduate teaching assistant.

How I see myself as a product designer

As a UX designer, I strongly believe that my emotional nature is an asset to my work. It enables me to connect deeply with the audience and truly comprehend their needs and emotions. My ability to identify and analyze complex problems enables me to offer pragmatic and impactful solutions. My strategy in tackling obstacles involves dissecting them into more manageable fragments and systematically solving each segment one at a time. As a right brained person, I possess an exceptional talent to creatively solve problems by embracing diverse perspectives and thinking beyond conventional boundaries. This unique skillset enables me to generate innovative ideas at the spur of the moment. Being an active listener enables me to obtain useful insights when communicating with users, customers, stakeholders, or coworkers, which eventually leads to improved decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Being a detail-oriented person, I analyse my designs at the micro level. As a result, my rigorous process enables me to anticipate potential challenges and propose suggestions to enhance the usability and accessibility of the idea, therefore improving the user experience. In my interactions with users, clients, stakeholders, and colleagues, I engage in extensive questioning. Although this approach may appear brisk at times, it allows for a thorough understanding of the problem, their perception, expectations, and requirements.

Personal interests

While I'm not designing, I like spending time with my family and friends. To relax, I like to try new recipes, go on adventures, paint, and spend time outdoors. Also, I like playing video games, and my favorites at the moment are Valorant, FIFA 23, and The Witcher 3.
